CLEAR CHANNEL News-Talk WRNO (RUSH RADIO 99.5)/NEW ORLEANS "JOHN OSTERLIND SHOW" Executve Producer JAMES PARKER has a story to tell about how a bit centered on an unusual new restaurant in town turned into the addition of a client.
PARKER says that host OSTERLIND told him about a new restaurant he spotted on his commute, "CHICKEN AND WATERMELON," located in a predominantly African-American neighborhood. PARKER and OSTERLIND checked it out and it turned out to be a chicken wing place with a satirical, politically-incorrect theme, "complete with OBAMA Punch and their hot sauce called 'Get Your Mind Right.'"
Inspired, the show's "house band," THE ASSCLOWNS, created a jingle and video for the restaurant and had listeners send selfies snapped in front of the place for the video. The restaurant owner responded with a load of chicken for the entire staff and appreciation for the attention, and after a week of free publicity, the restaurant is now paying to have the jingle run as a commercial.
PARKER added, "We have an addictive product for business owners. Once they get a hit of that new business, they get hooked, because they don’t have to worry about whether or not it’ll pay off."
