MICHAEL O’MALLEY of consulting partners ALBRIGHT & O’MALLEY & BRENNER published radio feedback in his blog TODAY (8/22), indicating that by a four-to-one margin, Country programmers are hopeful TAYLOR SWIFT will once again cut a Country song in the future, with 30% agreeing the format will miss her presence.
While qualifying that the data was gathered from an “admittedly unscientific straw poll,” of more than 60 Country PDs, MDs, talent and station executives, O’MALLEY also shared results showing 89% of those asked were familiar with SWIFT’s new pop single, “Shake It Off,” with 41% saying they had played all or part of the song.
Among verbatim comments taken from radio, O”MALLEY said these were the most common: “She’s been a crossover artist for some time" and “her music wasn’t any more or less Country than what’s being played on Country radio now," with respondents expressing the expectation that she will record something Country in the future.
