HUBBARD News WTOP/WASHINGTON and its WTOP.COM website are the first radio partners with crowdsourced traffic app WAZE's WAZE BROADCAST PROGRAM. The partnership will give WTOP access to a special version of WAZE that feeds newsworthy traffic incident information to the station's traffic reporters for incorporation into their reports, and the station will brand that additional content with WAZE's name. A special community of WTOP listeners will be incorporated into the WAZE app as well.
WTOP Senior Regional VP JOEL OXLEY said, “This partnership harnesses the power of crowd-sourced traffic information to make our already superior traffic product that much better.”
WTOP Dir. of Traffic Operations JIM BATTAGLIESE said, “Partnering with WAZE puts more resources at our disposal. It allows us to get information on all area roadways, including those with few public resources. WAZE is another tool in our arsenal to help D.C. commuters, who have one of the worst commutes in the country.”
WAZE BROADCAST PROGRAM head AMIR MIRZAEE added, “Working together with WTOP, WAZE will expand its support and insights in the D.C. region to reach even more drivers and help answer the question ‘What’s happening on our roads right now, and where?’ After successful radio trials in MEXICO and MALAYSIA we are proud to expand our support to listeners in the U.S. and look forward to announcing additional partners soon.”
