Longtime AKRON market news anchor LARRY STATES is retiring at the end of SEPTEMBER, reports RUBBER CITY RADIO's AKRONNEWSNOW.COM.
STATES has been anchoring at News-Talk WAKR-A/AKRON since 1982 and anchored at crosstown WHLO-A and WINW-A/CANTON and worked at the old ABC affiliate WAKR-TV before that.
OHIO MEDIA WATCH adds that WAKR, which dropped the Oldies portion of its schedule recently, is adding a weekday afternoon sports talk show, "THE AVERAGE SPORTS SHOW," hosted by sister Rock WONE Promotions Coordinator and "Average BROWNS Fan" BRAD RUSSELL, for 5-7p (ET) weeknights. Also added are WESTWOOD ONE's "OVERNIGHT AMERICA WITH JON GRAYSON," JILL SCHLESSINGER's syndicated "JILL ON MONEY," and "TODAY'S HOMEOWNER."
