CLEAR CHANNEL News-Talk WRNO/NEW ORLEANS has dropped its "RUSH RADIO 99.5" slogan and is now going by the slogan "NEWS-TALK 99.5 WRNO."
On his blog, former CLEAR CHANNEL talk chief and WLW-A/CINCINNATI PD/host DARRYL PARKS took note of the change and how RUSH LIMBAUGH was able to launch a new talker when WRNO flipped six years ago, but suggested that the slogan should have been changed immediately after the 2008 elections and noted that he had argued against using the name, fearing that it would brand the station as "conservative talk."
With the current change, PARKS said, "The station is now cemented as being far right-wing talk in NEW ORLEANS. Short of selling off RUSH to an AM station in the bayou, similar to what happened to his show in PITTSBURGH, the perception of listeners won’t and cannot be changed now." And he offered advice on programming and positioning talk stations, using proper imaging for "what you want to be," stressing the importance of imaging (suggesting that LIMBAUGH be marketed as an entertainer, not with a "RUSH is Right" slogan), and deleting all mentions of politics from imaging.
