CBGB Music & Film Festival Taps Billy Idol as Keynote Speaker

The 2014 CBGB MUSIC & FILM FESTIVAL, a five-day celebration taking place WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 8th through SUNDAY, OCTOBER 12th, has announced BILLY IDOL as its keynote speaker. IDOL is promoting his autobiography, "Dancing With Myself," coming out OCTOBER 7th through SIMON & SCHUSTER, as well as a new album, "Kings and Queens of the Underground," released on KOBALT LABEL SERVICES OCTOBER 21st. IDOL's appearance will be at the CBGB KICKOFF EVENT on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9th.
This intimate and very special keynote event will feature musician, record producer and former VH1 VJ TIM SOMMER interviewing BILLY live on stage, followed by a short acoustic performance by IDOL and his longtime guitarist and collaborator STEVE STEVENS. This will take place from 6-11p (ET) at CENTER 548 (548 W. 22nd Street).
Other major events include: DANIEL LANOIS presenting selections from the movie, "Flesh and Machine... The Films," his collboaration with THE MODERN SCHOOL OF FILMS, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 8th at the LANDMARK SUNSHINE CINEMA (143 E. Houston Street), 6-8p (ET).
GRAMMY-nominated DJ DIRTY SOUTH: screens "With You," his upcoming short film that accompanies his NOVEMBER album release of the same name, followed by a Q&A session, WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 8th at the LANDMARK SUNSHINE CINEMA, 8:30-10:30p (ET) .
GALADRIELLE ALLMAN, DUANE ALLMAN's daughter, and ERIN DAVIS, son of MILES DAVIS,as well as "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" composer STEPHEN TRASK will all be on hand FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10th at the HELEN MILLS THEATER (137 W. 26th Street), 6-9p (ET), for a discussion of their latest projects.
There will also be presentations by satirical online newspaper THE ONION [FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10th, 10-11p (ET)] at the HELEN MILLS THEATER; and discussions with MICHAEL ALAGO and DUFF McKAGAN [FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10th, 9:30-11:30p (ET)] at the VILLAGE EAST CINEMA (189 2nd Ave.) about being the subjects of new documentaries.
On SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11th, THE SCHOOL OF ROCK will pay homage to the legendary CBGB bands. Eight schools from NEW JERSEY and NEW YORK will come together to perform renditions of the most iconic punk-rock music from artists including THE RAMONES, JOAN JETT, BLONDIE and TALKING HEADS, from 12-6p (ET) at CENTER 548.
All this and more, including dozens of artist and band showcases at various venues.
