Radio "Good Guy" DALE TUCKER has died of cancer at the age of 73. TUCKER worked at WPGC/WASHINGTON, D.C. doing middays in 1964 as "BOB RALEIGH."
TUCKER had the distinction of being the first of the 'fake' BOB RALEIGHS, following the departure of BOB RALEIGH #1 (ROLLE FERREIRA) to WWDC (who continued using the name as 'The Real BOB RALEIGH') while GM, Bob Howard ordered Dale to go as "Tiger Bob."
"BOB HOWARD had PD DEAN GRIFFITH #1 (DEAN ANTHONY) instruct me to reference the 'TIGER BOB show' during a one week remote from a strip mall" DALE wrote several years ago. "I was told a few days later to go ahead and just BE TIGER BOB. In the meantime, the real TIGER BOB was on the air nights at WWDC telling folks, 'Don't believe an imposter, I'M the REAL TIGER BOB RALEIGH', etc. Of course, he was right. Insanity!"
TUCKER later worked on the air at powerhouses like WRKO/BOSTON, KOA/DENVER and KOIL/OMAHA, held management positions including GM of KSPN/ASPEN and most recently was Dir./Technical Sales for RADIO INK. In his retirement, he was a consultant at TUCKER BROADCAST.
