WORLD COLLEGE RADIO DAY was started four years ago and has grown to over 700 college and high school radio stations in 43 countries who participate in the event.
This year there will also be a 24-hour live Global Marathon involving 24 different college radio stations from countries spanning the world that will be broadcasting live and streaming online – one each per hour. This marathon is powered by LIVE365 and hosted by KCWU-FM (88.1 THE ‘BURG”) at CENTRAL WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY in ELLENSBURG, WA -- the first time a U.S. college station has hosted the event
Last year PRESIDENT OBAMA sent a letter to all college radio stations stating: “Uniting audiences across languages and borders, WORLD COLLEGE RADIO DAY celebrates the students who power these stations and the unique role college radio plays across the globe … I wish you all the best.”
WORLD COLLEGE RADIO DAY was co-founded by Dr. ROB QUICKE, a tenured Associate Professor of Communication at WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY where he also serves as GM of the university’s award-winning WPSC/WAYNE, NJ. He said, “We are very grateful to the efforts of both KCWU and also LIVE365 who have poured their energy and expertise into making this exciting event happen.”
DENNIS CONSTANTINE, Director of Broadcasting at LIVE365 said, “All of us at LIVE365 are excited to provide a platform for the upcoming WORLD COLLEGE RADIO DAY. Most of us here started our careers in college radio, and it holds a very special place in our hearts.”
