Anytime someone begins something new, the world bets on failure. And when CUMULUS rolled out the NASH ICON brand, which was likened to a Hot AC version of Country (NET NEWS 8/15), there was speculation.
While it's only a month in, ALL ACCESS caught up with CUMULUS EVP/Content & Programming JOHN DICKEY for his thoughts.
"We've only got a month going so far but we are encouraged about what the month of SEPTEMBER brought us in NASHVILLE in the PPM,” said DICKEY. “In fact, the results have been nothing short of spectacular in my opinion. NASH ICON on WSM-F is the #1 Country station, 25-54 6a-7p with a 5.7. NASH on WKDF has as 5.4, and WSIX has a 4.8. That's a pretty crazy number when you think about it.
"And, the cume on NASH ICON has been level and consistent with the others, WKDF and WSIX, and we're seeing appeal on the younger end too, which is not something that we figured on. We are trending big with men leading the women, who look healthy too, showing up neck and neck with WKDF and WSIX.
"So, yes, it's only a month into it but we're happy to see the acceptance of this fragmentation of the Country format with NASH ICON."
