Condolences to family and friends of longtime ENTERCOM News-Talk WYRD-F (NEWS RADIO WORD)/GREENVILLE-SPARTANBURG, SC 8a-noon (ET) host RUSS CASSELL, who died SATURDAY (10/11) of an apparent heart attack at his home. He was 60.
CASSELL had been hosting at WORD since 1994 and had been on the air in the market since 1980, when he did commentary for WFBC-A.
ENTERCOM GREENVILLE VP/GM STEVE SINICROPI said, “The passing of RUSS CASSELL s a sad day for his family, our ENTERCOM family, and his thousands of listeners. His passion was his radio program on WORD 106.3. CASSELL was a well-respected professional. His voice and opinions were listened to by thousands. He was a radio giant and it is difficult to express how much he will be missed."
OM BOB MCLAIN said, "There are some radio personalities who are larger than life. That was CASSELL. He was passionate about what he believed and was dedicated to keeping people informed. He was a brilliant and very talented radio host and a personal friend. His loss will be greatly felt by all of us in the WORD family, those who worked with him and those who listened to him."
WORD aired a memorial show hosted by MCLAIN on SATURDAY evening and will air tribute programming this week in CASSELL's 8a-noon slot.
