Veteran broadcaster JAAN McCOY of DJRD BROADCASTING Oldies/Adult Hits KAAM (LEGENDS 770)/DALLAS-FORT WORTH will be memorialized by the station today at 8a and 12p (CT) after he was found dead in the studio this past weekend.
Station owner DON CRAWFORD posted the following message on his FACEBOOK page: "We are in major shock and immensely grieving the loss of JAAN McCOY (KALMES) today. He was found in the broadcast chair this afternoon, where he suffered a fatal heart attack. We loved him so very, very much and he was a true friend and warrior for God and LEGENDS. Be praying for his wife, BECCA, and his six children. A horrible day and loss for us all."
McCOY was born in BRAZIL, and grew up in PENNSYLVANIA and SYRACUSE, where he started his radio career at age 16 with a Saturday morning stint on WFBL. His broadcasting adventures have taken him to gigs in the HAMILTON/TORONTO and OTTAWA markets in CANADA, then to DALLAS for some FM Classic Rock, Rock Hits on the ABC RADIO NETWORK and 20 years as morning host of THE BREAKFAST CLUB with 10 of those years at WLGZ's sister station KAAM. He was most recently one of the principals in the ownership of country and rock 'n' roll hits stations in GREENVILLE, TX. McCOY also worked as a producer for WESTWOOD ONE's Classic Hits format.
