CLEAR CHANNEL has launched a new Hispanic format, RUMBA 104.5, on the frequency of former AC WSNI (SUNNY 104.5) in PHILADELPHIA. The new format kicked off rather unceremoniously at noon (ET) with a brief countdown in Spanish, followed by "Puerto Rico" by FRANKIE RUIZ.
"Rumba Ciento Quatro Punta Cinco" will feature a Tropical format consisting of Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Reggaeton and Pop. The new format debuts on a frequency that has hosted many different flavors of AC over the years. Originally known as Country WRCP-FM back in the early 70s, the station became Soft AC SUNNY 104.5, Hot AC STAR 104.5 and Rockin' Hits ALICE 104.5 before reverting to Gold-based AC SUNNY 104.5 (again) several years ago.
"Our decision to create RUMBA 104.5 is a significant recognition of the importance and vitality of the Greater PHILADELPHIA region’s Latino population which has grown nearly 13.5% over the past five years," commented RVP MANUEL RODRIGUEZ. "The DELAWARE VALLEY has a wealth of organizations and individuals who are committed to serving the Latino community. We are tremendously excited that we have a radio station that will strongly support their efforts. We chose 'Orgullo Latino' as RUMBA’s slogan for a reason. It translates into 'Latino Pride.'"
The CLEAR CHANNEL PHILLY crew will celebrate the launch of the new format at CUBA LIBRE Restaurant in PHILADELPHIA's "Old City" section this evening.
