Yesterday's announcement of a deal between NIELSEN and ABODE regarding the formation of a digital monitoring platform (NET NEWS, 10/21) left it somewhat unclear as to whether it will monitor digital audio as well as TV. In an statement, NIELSEN indicated that it will -- eventually.
"This announcement focuses on an important new initiative for NIELSEN that will arrive next year, our comprehensive Digital Content Ratings. We are working with ADOBE to integrate their analytics service and in a broader scope, Digital Content Ratings will tackle cross-platform reporting of total audiences for any type of digital content, including audio. There are existing digital measurement components that NIELSEN has already developed which will roll up into Digital Content Ratings, and the Digital Audio Measurement service that is currently in development will also do the same. To be clear, Digital Content Ratings is not replacing or changing our Digital Audio Measurement plans, the new audio service will be a component of the larger, comprehensive product that is Digital Content Ratings."
