iHEARTMEDIA News-Talk WHO-A/DES MOINES afternoon host SIMON CONWAY raised $4,000 in two hours with a barbecue in the station's parking lot live on the air to benefit the PUPPY JAKE FOUNDATION, which raises and trains service dogs for veterans. CONWAY convinced a supermarket to donate 200 pounds of meat, got a bakery to offer 800 buns, and got a top BBQ griller to do the cooking outside the station.
CONWAY said, "The audience were incredible. We were non stop with people driving through, picking up sandwiches and throwing heaps of cash in the donation buckets... We had three nine week old puppies that looked like they just left the set of a toilet tissue commercial, the first dog to have been given to a Vet, PUPPY JAKE himself, and even my own Choc Lab, REAGAN."
