GRAND SLAM SPORTS Sports KFNS-A (590 THE MAN)/ST. LOUIS has gone silent, reports the ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH.
The station, once the primary all-Sports station in town and in the format for 21 years except for a brief attempt at "guy talk" as "590 THE MAN" last year, has been roiled by internal strife and financial trouble in recent years. OM MIKE CALVIN told the P-D's DAN CAESAR that the station is unlikely to return to the air until after it is sold to an unnamed religious broadcaster and that the station is "off the air due to nonpayment of operational bills." The station is in debt to the tune of about $580,000, CALVIN said, and utility company AMEREN shut off power to the transmitter for nonpayment of $1,200 in energy bills.
Sister "Extreme" Talk KXFN-A (1380 THE X) remains on the air and has been paying its bills, said CALVIN. KEVIN SLATEN's afternoon show continues online at TALKSTL.COM.
