Condolences to family and friends of CBS affiliate KFMB-TV/SAN DIEGO feature reporter LARRY HIMMEL, who died after a battle with brain cancer at 68.
HIMMEL started his career on radio in 1969 as night DJ at WSIV-A/PEKIN, IL, and later hosted at WJOB-A/HAMMOND, IN, and CJOM/WINDSOR-DETROIT. He moved to SAN DIEGO and hosted for six years (as "THE CRUISER") at KGB-F and later at KFMB-F (B100), moving into TV at KFMB-TV in 1979 after being seen doing standup comedy by a producer from the station. He was a staple on CBS 8's newscasts with his trademark humorous features until his last reports in SEPTEMBER.
