CAPITOL RECORDS laid off approximately 14 people in what is being described by inside sources as "part of Chairman STEVE BARNETT's strategic restructuring" of the label begun two years ago when he took office back in 2012 from COLUMBIA.
The layoffs are described as "across the board," with reductions in staff in marketing, sales and various assistants, but the publicity department was particularly hit hard. Among those reportedly laid off are BLUE NOTE publicist J.R. RICH, KATY PERRY rep HEIDI ANNE-NOEL, GIHAN SALEM, HARVEST PR head LUCY ROBINSON, who just recently came over from SECRETLY CANADIAN, and ASTRALWERKS' LESLIE HERMELIN.
A source close to the company insisted this is "not a reduction in work force," and to expect more hirings in the near future.
