iHEARTMEDIA Classic Rock WPYX (PYX 106)/ALBANY, NY oberved Veterans Day with a special broadcast featuring 12 military servicemen and women from the Capital Region. The veterans hosted the station's programming, music and conversational topics for the day.
For two weeks in OCTOBER, WPYX personalities encouraged local veterans to visit the station web site and submit to guest DJ on the station. 12 veterans were chosen and will DJ their own hour-long broadcast from 8a to 7p (ET) with stories of VIETNAM, IRAQ, and AFGHANISTAN with a special hour dedicated to World War II veterans.
"We're excited to host local veterans on-air to play their favorite music and to tell our listeners about their experiences," said JOHN COOPER, Regional Programming Manager for iHEARTMEDIA. "PYX 106's veteran takeover will be an amazing day for the community to hear about our great nation's military servicemen and women."
Following Vets Rock, PYX 106 broadcast THE CONCERT FOR VALOR, featuring performances by BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, THE BLACK KEYS, DAVE GROHL and more. Listeners tuned into the station to hear the commercial-free concert live from WASHINGTON, D.C. from 7 – 10p (ET). THE CONCERT FOR VALOR is a first-of-its-kind event designed to bring artists, celebrities and millions of AMERICANS together to honor the courage and sacrifice of veterans, active duty service members and their families.
Since JUNE 2013, PYX 106 has supported iHEARTRADIO SHOW YOUR STRIPES, the largest public service program in the company's history. The initiative has become the most mainstream public campaign addressing the growing issue of U.S. veteran unemployment in communities across the nation. The campaign has generated over 6.2 billion media impressions and has attracted over 4,000 national and local companies nationwide that have shared stories of veteranemployment success.
