THE SUGARHILL GANG's HANK JACKSON aka 'BIG BANK HANK' has passed at the age of 57. The cause is believed to have been cancer, reports USA TODAY.
JACKSON joined THE SUGARHILL GANG in the late '70s when SUGARHILL RECORDS Founder/producer SYLVIA ROBINSON was looking to record a group to capitalize on the Hip-Hop movement that had been thriving on the party scene in the NEW YORK BRONX. She signed the group and their first hit 'RAPPERS DELIGHT' is commonly credited as the first song to bring Hip- Hop to a mainstream audience.
The Group was inducted into the HIP-HOP HALL OF FAME in MAY. (NET NEWS, 5/7).
