PRX's RADIOTOPIA podcast network reached $624,412 in funding on FRIDAY (11/14) through KICKSTARTER, making it the most funded publishing effort and the most funded Radio/Podcast project in Kickstarter history. The project's original goal was $250,000.
With the funding windfall, RADIOTOPIA will add four podcasts to the network, including MORTIFIED, the podcast on people's most embarrassing moments that spawned a live show, documentary, books, and a TV show for SUNDANCE CHANNEL; CRIMINAL, hosted by PHOEBE JUDGE; THE HEART, with KAITLIN PRIEST; and THE ALLUSIONIST, a language podcast hosted by ANSWER ME THIS co-host HELEN ZALTZMAN. The network will also launch a pilot development fund and will encourage diversity in voices and topic areas.
The funding will also allow STRANGERS and RADIO DIARIES to go bi-weekly; THE TRUTH to commission a new story from GROUNDHOG DAY writer DANNY RUBIN; THEORY OF EVERYTHING to go to three episodes a month and establish a paid internship program; LOVE+RADIO to commission music for original scores for three more episodes; 99% INVISIBLE to continue to pay health care costs and cost of living raises for its staff; and extra podcast-only episodes for FUGITIVE WAVES.
