Veteran music publishing lawyer MICHAEL PETERSEN is named SVP/Business & Legal Affairs for UNIVERSAL MUSIC PUBLISHING GROUP by SVP/Head of Business & Legal Affairs and Business Development DAVID KOKAKIS, to whom he'll report.
PETERSEN will be based out of the company’s NYC office and responsible for contract negotiations for new and existing writer and catalog signings, acquisitions and other legal matters.
PETERSEN was most recently Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel for ATLAS MUSIC PUBLISHING, where he helped establish the company's infrastructure. Prior to this, during his more than six years as EVP/GM of KOBALT MUSIC GROUP, he played a pivotal role in the company’s U.S. expansion and was instrumental in building both the EAST COAST and WEST COAST teams. Before KOBALT, Petersen ran Business & Legal Affairs for UMPG, where he helped shape the company's deal-making strategies.
"After negotiating deals against MICHAEL throughout the past 15 years, it's a pleasure to be on the same side of the table for the first time," KOKAKIS said. "UMPG is fortunate to have an attorney of MICHAEL's caliber rejoin the family. I am happy to welcome him back home."
“It’s an honor and a privilege to be working back at UNIVERSAL with so many long-term friends. It's definitely an exciting time to be rejoining the UMPG team,” added PETERSEN.
