WESTWOOD ONE host MICHAEL SAVAGE's campaign to help reunite a wounded veteran with his bomb-sniffing dog has succeeded with the reunion of Spc. BRENT GROMMET and MATTY, a Czech German shepherd, reports WND.
After an IED explosion in AFGHANISTAN sent GROMMET to the hospital with serious injuries including spinal injury, hearing loss, and post-traumatic stress, the Army mistakenly gave MATTY up for adoption after processing. After SAVAGE's campaign, the dog was located in SOUTH CAROLINA and picked up by GROMMET's father DON to bring back to FORT CAMPBELL, KY for the reunion. SAVAGE, who credited a "collective effort" for making the reunion happen, urged listeners to call Army officials and legislators but noted that some callers to the show said off the air that they would work their connections with the Army to push for the dog to be returned, and SAVAGE told WND, "I think that behind the scenes, that is why the dog was reunited."
DON GROMMET appeared on SAVAGE's show MONDAY to talk about the reunion, saying that BRENT "is laughing, smiling, talking more than he has since he came back from AFGHANISTAN."
