Despite IRVING AZOFF'S threat (NET NEWS, 11/19), GOOGLE unveiled the YOUTUBE MUSIC KEY on-demand pay music service. For the first six months, it’s in beta mode, delIvered invite-only primarily to GOOGLE PLAY MUSIC subscribers and heavy consumers of YouTube music videos.
For $10 a month (after the $7.99/month introductory offer), MUSIC KEY offers consumers the chance to view and listen to YOUTUBE's huge library ad-free vast library of music holdings. USA TODAY reports that users can also play the music in the background of their smartphones and can download songs for offline access -- which would be perfect when you're in an airplane or a poor reception area.
Interestingly, MUSIC KEY offers only a handful of TAYLOR SWIFT and none of her albums, but it does have clips of her live performances.
