NPR CEO JARL MOHN is asking member stations to participate in a campaign to promote the network's "MORNING EDITION" with 100 promos a week between JANUARY 14th and JUNE 15th, reports CURRENT.ORG.
MOHN discussed his "Spark Project" to promote the show at a meeting of station executives in LAS VEGAS last WEDNESDAY (11/19), offering a grand prize of free carriage of the show for a year to the winner of the promo campaign contest. He said that public radio stations promote about 12 different shows at once, with none getting "the kind of juice behind them that they need. We need to focus on one major initiative.”
Responding to claims that the campaign is only being carried in small and medium markets, MOHN said that WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY News-Talk WDET/DETROIT, NORTH TEXAS PUBLIC BROADCASTING News-Talk KERA/DALLAS, NEVADA PUBLIC RADIO News-Talk KNPR/LAS VEGAS, GEORGIA PUBLIC BROADCASTING, and BOSTON UNIVERSITY News-Talk WBUR/BOSTON had signed on, although WBUR later told CURRENT its participation has not been confirmed.
