The radio tower on Sunset Boulevard in HOLLYWOOD, once one of two structures beaming the signal of KFWB-A/LOS ANGELES in the early days of radio, has been dismantled and is being moved to its original location on the SUNSET BRONSON STUDIOS lot, reports TRIBUNE CW affiliate KTLA (TV)/LOS ANGELES.
The tower, built in 1925 and long located in front of KTLA's studio building and visible from the nearby 101 HOLLYWOOD FREEWAY, has been sporting KTLA's calls and logo for many years and has been sitting at the corner of Sunset and Gower; the tower was removed MONDAY (11/24) to make way for a 14-story office building adjacent to KTLA's studio. The tower's twin, also briefly used to transmit KFWB, was removed in 1950 when the first tower was moved to the site from which it was removed today. KTLA moved into the studio building in 1955.
