Former CBC RADIO ONE "Q" host JIAN GHOMESHI has been arrested and charged with four counts of sexual assault and one count of choking, the TORONTO Police announced TODAY (11/26). A court appearance has been scheduled for this afternoon. GHOMESHI was fired by the CBC on OCTOBER 26th.
Earlier TODAY, GHOMESHI, who filed a C$55 million suit against the network when he was fired in the wake of revelations about his personal life that led to public accusations by several victims of sexual abuse or harassment, withdrew his suit, and THE GLOBE AND MAIL reports that GHOMESHI agreed to settle the issue by filing a union grievance instead.
CBC Head of Public Affairs CHUCK THOMPSON told the paper that the suit "has been dismissed with costs in favour of the CBC," with the network awarded $18,000 in costs pending a court order. GHOMESHI has filed a grievance through the CANADIAN MEDIA GUILD and will submit to binding arbitration in the matter.
