Longtime radio engineer GERALD W. WILSON died TUESDAY (11/25) after a long battle with congestive heart failure and liver cancer, at the age of 71.
GERALD was originally from MONTGOMERY, AL and began his radio career there in the 70s. From the late 80s and beyond he worked for CLEAR CHANNEL and CUMULUS stations in and around PENSACOLA, FL, as well as WPSM (91.1 THE POSITIVE CHOICE)/FORT WALTON BEACH FL and WCCX (PRAISE 95)/NAVARRE.
GERALD retired as Dir./Engineering Servics and Dir./IT for CLEAR CHANNEL in 2005 due to heart problems, and continued to serve as a consulting engineer for several FLORIDA stations on a volunteer basis.
Friend and former co-worker DALE RIDDICK, PD for WOWB/BREWTON AL commented, "I remember the very first day that GERALD walked in as engineer for 98 SURF in FORT WALTON BEACH. I liked him right from the start, and we became great friends. He was such an amazing guy! I don't think there was a radio station anywhere in NW FLORIDA that he didn't help in some way through the years. So sad to hear that he's gone, but glad that he's not suffering with sickness anymore."
GERALD was a man of faith, and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends during this time of loss.
