The THANKSGIVING edition of radio consultant and talent coach LARRY GIFFORD's "RADIO STUFF" podcast gives thanks to radio's "truth tellers," including GIFFORD's former WTVN-A/COLUMBUS colleague, market icon BOB CONNERS, who passed away this week, and ALL ACCESS' own VP/Editor, News-Talk-Sports PERRY MICHAEL SIMON.
GIFFORD's tribute to CONNERS, who he terms one of his earliest influences in the business, includes excerpts of shows and interviews and an aircheck of GIFFORD's first fill-in for CONNERS. After that, GIFFORD, visiting SIMON on the beach at HERMOSA BEACH, CA, turns the tables on SIMON with "10 Questions" of his own, leading to a wide-ranging discussion about the radio industry and SIMON's career, punctuated by the sound of seagulls hovering over Pier Plaza. (SIMON's interview follows last week's LAGUNA BEACH-side interview with another highly opinionated industry figure, MEDIA.INFO's JAMES CRIDLAND.) And the show closes with audio of TRIBUNE Sports WGWG-LP (THE GAME 87.7 FM)/CHICAGO host BEN FINFER's rant on the air after learning on Twitter that the station would be shutting down at the end of the year, followed by the audio of the classic "WKRP IN CINCINNATI" turkey drop fiasco.
