CBS RADIO News WBZ-A/BOSTON morning sports anchor WALT PERKINS has exited, reports the BOSTON GLOBE's CHAD FINN.
FINN writes that PERKINS was fired about two weeks ago "for reasons that were unclear," but PERKINS told FINN that the parting was mutual, based on his feeling that the sports role on the station had been "greatly reduced" and "(w)hen I heard some other opportunities might be developing in the market, I thought the time was right to make a move.”
PERKINS, who served as a sports reporter/anchor at crosstown ABC affiliate WCVB-TV in 1988-2003 and as BRUINS studio host at CBS-owned independent WSBK-TV in 1987-88, joined WBZ in 2001 and took over as morning sports anchor when GIL SANTOS retired in 2009.
