GREATER MEDIA Sports WMGC (DETROIT SPORTS 105.1)/DETROIT, APPLE VACATIONS, and the DETROIT TIGERS FOUNDATION partnered on a promotion to support youth baseball in the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC in OCTOBER.
The station gave away APPLE VACATIONS trips to the IBEROSTAR DOMINICANA in PUNTA CANA to accompany DETROIT SPORTS 105.1 host MATT DERY and TIGERS players JD MARTINEZ, BRYAN HOLADAY, and NICK CASTELLANOS on a tour of the TIGERS DOMINICAN ACADEMY.
At the facility, the players, joined by TIGERS teammates and native Dominicans MELVIN MERCEDES and JOSE VALDEZ, donated over 500 pieces of baseball equipment and 100 TIGERS t-shirts to children in a nearby orphanage, OUR LITTLE BROTHERS DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, where the players and radio staffers visited later that day. One 17-year-old boy at the orphanage followed the entourage around, and at the end, MARTINEZ took off his shoes and gave them to the boy, who gave his flip-flops to MARTINEZ in return.
