W.F.M. INC. Religion WCIS-A (AM 760 THE CROSS)/MORGANTON, NC has once again been knocked off the air, this time by vandals who stole copper from the station's transmitter and damaged the building, reports ABC affiliate WSOC-TV/CHARLOTTE.
Owner JOHN WHISNANT, whose station burned down in a fire in 2008 and was rebuilt after a month's silence, said that he noticed that the station was off the air and went to the site, where he found thieves had cut through a barbed-wire fence and caused about $50,000 in damage to the transmitter. The station is expected to be off the air through early next week while a used transmitter is obtained.
