FREESOLO ENTERTAINMENT has launched a joint-venture platform with RCA RECORDS/SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT, SONY/ATV PUBLISHING, and VECTOR MANAGEMENT. The platform boasts three divisions: FREESOLO MUSIC, a record label joint venture with RCA RECORDS/SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT; FREESOLO PUBLISHING, a joint venture with SONYATV PUBLISHING; and FREESOLO MANAGEMENT, a joint venture with VECTOR MANAGEMENT.
The company looks to create seamless connections between its artists, record label, publishing and management divisions via strategic partnerships and flexibility. The label will sign artists for support and development in conjunction with RCA RECORDS/SONY MUSIC global resources.
FREESOLO Founders JAMES DIENER and BEN BERKMAN are joined by partner ROME THOMAS and the core A&M/OCTONE creative and executive team responsible for signing and developing platinum-selling acts such as MAROON 5, HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD, K'NAAN and FLYLEAF, among others. “We’re delighted to welcome JAMES DIENER and BEN BERKMAN back into the RCA fold and look forward to once again enjoying multiple successes together,” RCA MUSIC GROUP Chairman PETER EDGE and Pres./COO TOM CORSON said.
"JAMES DIENER and BEN BERKMAN have a terrific track record of breaking artists - as the global success of MAROON 5 has demonstrated," SONY/ATV MUSIC PUBLISHING Chairman/CEO MARTIN BANDIER said. "So, we are excited that SONY/ATV will now have the opportunity to work closely with them to develop new talent together."
"JAMES DIENER and BEN BERKMAN bring a wealth of experience and passion to artist management and the career development process," VECTOR MANAGEMENT GROUP Presidents KEN LEVITAN and JACK ROVNER added. "We are beyond thrilled to have FREESOLO as part of the VECTOR family."
"Having been dedicated to artist development throughout our careers, we know the imperative of having the best strategic resources and being able to enter a high quality partnership with talent at that essential moment of discovery," DIENER said. "Noting the dynamism of the industry, we are aiming to introduce a company with ‘state of the art’ flexibility, in all potential avenues to enable an artist's career. Hence, the launch of FREESOLO ENTERTAINMENT, where we record, publish and manage artists - in any combination of the above - towards whatever end is most advantageous for them. Moreover, in this full-service company, we are supported by the best venture partners that the industry has to offer.”
"When naming a new company, we looked for sources of mutual inspiration," BERKMAN added. "Free soloing is a form of rock climbing where the climber forgoes all safety gear while ascending to the summit, relying only on persistence, concentration and ability. This idea marries well to launching a new career, marketing music in today's environment and is germane to how we approach breaking artists. It characterizes how musicians feel about their lives and careers - to choose the path of a recording artist requires the same kind of passion, discipline and commitment. Reaching the ultimate reward entails taking great risk and this is the concept of FREESOLO."
