If you've ever thought that there was a book in the story of the infamous "Disco Demolition" promotion at CHICAGO's COMISKEY PARK 35 years ago, you were right: The man behind the event, CUMULUS News-Talk WLS-A/CHICAGO host and podcaster STEVE DAHL, is finally writing the definitive version of what happened on JULY 12, 1979 and what led up to the baseball promotion-turned-internationally famous fiasco. ROBERTFEDER.COM reports that "DISCO DEMOLITION: THE DEATH OF DISCO," written with TRIBUNE News-Talk WGN-A/CHICAGO weekender and former CHICAGO SUN-TIMES columnist DAVE HOEKSTRA with photos by PAUL NATKIN, will be published by CURBSIDE SPLENDOR in APRIL 2016.
The promotion to blow up a box of disco records between games of a WHITE SOX doubleheader led to fans storming the field and game two being forfeited to DETROIT. DAHL, at the time of the incident, was morning host at WLUP; he told FEDER, "I wanted to make sure that there is both an oral and pictorial history of what really happened that night. As we get further from the event, people tend to assign different meanings to it. It really was about saving rock and roll."
The book will include interviews by HOEKSTRA with CHIC's NILE RODGERS, ST. PAUL SAINTS owner MIKE VEECK (whose father, the legendary BILL VEECK, owned the SOX at the time), SOX play-by-play voice ED FARMER, and others.
