MID-WEST FAMILY Top 40/Rhythmic KOSP (92.9 THE BEAT)/SPRINGFIELD, MO morning "RICH AND MCCLAIN SHOW" co-host RICHARD DEAVER has exited in the wake of the SPRINGFIELD, MO POLICE OFFICERS ASSOCIATION calling for a boycott of the show due to DEAVER's on-air complaints about being pulled over on a traffic stop. The SPRINGFIELD NEWS-LEADER reports that the station is now referring to the show as "MCCLAIN IN THE MORNING," indicating that DAWN MCCLAIN is continuing solo, and DEAVER told the paper this morning that he and the company "parted ways amicably, and I am going to pursue other opportunities," but added, "I'm kind of bummed, though. I am bummed."
DEAVER was pulled over on his scooter by police at 5a (CT) NOVEMBER 14th while riding to work; the police handcuffed DEAVER and searched the scooter for drugs because an officer claimed he smelled pot, but no drugs were found. Instead, police wrote DEAVER a ticker for running a flashing red light and being without a valid driver's license, and told him a non-extraditable warrant was out for him in CAMDEN COUNTY, MO. He went on the air alleging that he was "torn" off the scooter and thrown against the police car, and that the warrant was not for him. He also played a tape of the incident. The police union called for a boycott of the station and said it had asked its attorney whether the comments constituted defamation, although the union later decided that it would not sue. Dashcam footage was released by the police as well to bolster their side of the dispute.
