As part of the CBC's revamping of its local television news shows, the Canadian national network has announced that it will simulcast all of its local CBC RADIO ONE morning shows on television 6-7a weekdays except for the NORTH market.
The move comes as CBC television is cutting back on the length of its local newscasts from the present 90 minutes to 60 minutes in TORONTO, VANCOUVER, WINNIPEG, OTTAWA, HALIFAX, CHARLOTTETOWN, ST. JOHN'S, and THE NORTH, and to 30 minutes in MONTREAL, CALGARY, EDMONTON, REGINA, WINDSOR, and FREDERICTON. The network has been enduring budget cuts due to funding shortfalls, resulting in 657 planned job cuts over two years and pulling CBC television out of the bidding for pro sports rights.
