The latest honoree in JACOBS MEDIA's weekly bestowal of the title "Most Innovative" in the radio industry is WESTWOOD ONE-syndicated Rock show "ROCKLINE," which is ending this month. "ROCKLINE" launched in 1981 with the late B. MITCHEL REED as the host and JACOBS MEDIA's FRED JACOBS recalls being PD of WRIF/DETROIT at the time and signing up as one of the show's first affiliates. The show is now hosted by BOB COBURN, who ultimately bought the show.
JACOBS writes that "in its heyday, ROCKLINE provided a unique intimacy with icons who audiences only saw from the stage, and in very rare moments on television. It was a truly innovative radio show." The post honoring "ROCKLINE" includes an interview by MIKE STERN with the show's original Executive Producer HOWARD GILLMAN, featuring stories about PAUL MCCARTNEY, ELTON JOHN, and President BILL CLINTON, among others.
