PAUL McCARTNEY, LINDA RONSTADT and GLEN CAMPBELL are among 14 pop acts selected for induction into the third class of AMERICA'S POP MUSIC HALL OF FAME, with RONSTADT topping the public vote.
PAUL ANKA, CHUBBY CHECKER, THE EAGLES, THE EVERLY BROTHERS, THE FOUR SEASONS, TOM JONES, RICKY NELSON, the RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS, JOHNNY TILLOTSON and ANDY WILLIAMS were also elected, while LES PAUL & MARY FORD were honored for their influence on pop music.
Inductees must have a charted song prior to 1974 to be considered. Inductees were selected from 25 nominees chosen by a national music industry panel based on the breadth, depth and influence of the artists’ recordings. More than one million non-repetitive votes were cast.
These 14 artists join the 28 other inductees in AMERICA'S POP MUSIC HALL OF FAME: THE BEACH BOYS, THE BEATLES, THE BEE GEES, TONY BENNETT, THE CARPENTERS, JOHNNY CASH, RAY CHARLES, CHICAGO, NAT KING COLE, PERRY COMO, BOBBY DARIN, NEIL DIAMOND, BUDDY HOLLY, ELTON JOHN, CAROLE KING, BRENDA LEE, DEAN MARTIN, JOHNNY MATHIS, THE MONKEES, ROY ORBISON, PATTI PAGE, THE PLATTER, ELVIS PRESLEY, SIMON & GARFUNKEL, FRANK SINATRA, THE SUPREMES, BOBBY VINTON and STEVIE WONDER.
Plans include opening a 1,900-seat, multi-use performance venue as well as a museum with both permanent and rotating exhibits just south of PITTSBURGH. AMERICA'S POP MUSIC HALL OF FAME, founded in 2012, is based in CANONSBURG, PA, the home of PERRY COMO, BOBBY VINTON and THE FOUR COINS, who together placed nearly 200 songs on the BILLBOARD charts.
Nominations for the fourth class of inductees will be announced in SEPTEMBER 2015. Executive Director TERRY HAZLETT may be reached at (724) 745-1515. Further information is also available at www.americaspopmusichalloffame.org as well as the AMERICA'S POP MUSIC HALL OF FAME FACEBOOK page.
