MAGNUM COMMUNICATIONS News-Talk WRJN-A/RACINE, WI PD/midday host DON ROSEN is exiting the station, reports the RACINE JOURNAL TIMES. ROSEN, who has been with the station for 24 years, will host his last show on WEDNESDAY (12/31). Morning co-anchor CURT VOLLMAN will take ROSEN's place as PD.
ROSEN told the paper that he was let go without severance pay and that he was told the company heard from people who claimed they wouldn't listen to the station because of his show. “I’m glad I’m out of there,” ROSEN told the JOURNAL TIMES. “I just wanted out. It was not the same radio station” after MAGNUM's acquisition of the station.
MAGNUM said that the station "was a team that was running a wishbone offense and will be going to a pro-style offense. It’s nothing about DON’s performance as a professional -- we’re changing the direction of the radio station; we’re calling it ‘your radio station friend.’"
He added that ROSEN was not eligible for severance because MAGNUM has only owned the station since NOVEMBER 1st, and that the firing was done on the phone because he had promised ROSEN notice as soon as a decision was made, noting that allowing ROSEN to do his show for three more days after notice of his firing is not typically done in radio.
