SAG and AFTRA's boards have approved a two year extension to their commercials contracts, including a 6% pay increase, higher contributions by employers to pension and health plans, acknowledgement that unions have jurisdiction over advertising in new media, and creation of a joint union-advertiser committee to oversee and, if necessary, modify the deal. The move puts the contracts up for a vote among the unions' rank and file by SEPTEMBER 26 and would allow the unions and advertising companies to come up with a new plan dealing with commercials airing on multiple platforms in the new media.
