A new free, advertising-supported digital music download service has inked a deal to offer music from UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP. The BBC reports that SPIRALFROG, headed by UK enterpreneur and former advertising executive ROBIN KENT, will begin testing in NORTH AMERICA before year's end with the UK and EUROPE to follow next year. Downloads from SPIRALFROG will be ad supported and will come in MICROSOFT's WMA format in a form of DRM which will prevent copying and sharing of the tracks or use on APPLE iPods. Terms of the UNIVERSAL deal were not disclosed.
