A report by the STATE DEPARTMENT released by Democratic Congressional staffers TUESDAY says that BROADCASTING BOARD OF GOVERNORS Chairman and former CORPORATION FOR PUBLIC BROADCASTING chief KENNETH Y. TOMLINSON improperly hired a friend for a job that paid almost $250,000 over 2 1/2 years and had public employees run personal errands for him. The report accuses TOMLINSON of overseeing a thoroughbred horse racing stable from his office; he is also accused of overbilling the government for work, including exceeding the maximum number of billable days allowed. TOMLINSON's renomination to the BBG, which oversees the VOICE OF AMERICA, RADIO MARTI/TV MARTI, and RADIO FREE EUROPE, is pending before the Senate.
