Detroit Institute Of Music Education Launches Original 1265 Recordings Label With Caroline

MPV Is DIME's First Release

DETROIT INSTITUTE OF MUSIC EDUCATION (DIME) founders KEVIN NIXON and SARAH CLAYMAN have founded a new record label, ORIGINAL 1265 RECORDINGS.

Based at -- and named after -- DIME's headquarters at 1265 Griswold Street in downtown DETROIT’s CAPITOL PARK district, the label will be distributed in the U.S. by CAROLINE, is part of the UNIVERSAL/CAPITOL MUSIC GROUP.

ORIGINAL 1265 RECORDINGS has already signed two artists and expects to announce a third and fourth in the coming weeks. The label will also release an album of the best music by current 2015 DIME students later in the year.

The label's first release will be from DETROIT-based alternative rock band MPV. “In Lust We Trust,” MPV’s debut four-track EP, will be released on MARCH 3rd; the band’s complete debut album will be released later in the year.

MPV consists of lead singer and guitarist ELISE McCOY, drummer VAL KLAFT and bassist JOHN MISSIG, and has steadily built a strong live following in the metro DETROIT area in the last couple of years. Songs featured on the debut EP include “Mister Sister," “Real Good Time,” “Wrong Girl” and “In My Dreams.” The four-track EP was recorded at FERNDALE’s TEMPERMILL STUDIOS.

The other signing is DETROIT-born singer-songwriter CHARITY, who was inked just afte she completed her MA in Music & Jazz at TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY in DECEMBER. CHARITY is currently recording her debut EP at STUDIO A in DEARBORN, MI, with an expected release in the spring. The 23-year-old has already gained a good deal of live experience, including playing at the legendary APOLLO THEATRE in HARLEM.

In their native U.K., NIXON and CLAYMAN have a strong track record of developing new music artists such as LITTLE ANGELS, BRIT AWARD winner KULA SHAKER, KIRSTY McCOLL, THE KOOKS, TOM ODELL and GEORGE EZRA. ORIGINAL 1265 RECORDINGS will open an office in LONDON later this year.

“Since coming to DETROIT a year ago, we have been blown away with the level of talent," DIME Pres. KEVIN NIXON said. "We thought it would be great to give the best of that talent a proper outlet. This region has been neglected by the music industry for a long time and because of that, too many musicians leave town. So we decided to bring the music industry here via this great deal with CAROLINE. The label is open to all musicians, and is not restricted to artists associated with DIME."
