Condolences to family and friends of longtime former PORTSMOUTH, OH personality EARCEL "ZEKE" MULLINS, who died WEDNESDAY (1/21) at 93, reports the PORTSMOUTH DAILY TIMES.
MULLINS began performing on WPAY-A/PORTSMOUTH, OH as a 15-year-old musician in 1936 and launched a local music show on the station after serving in the MERCHANT MARINES during WORLD WAR II. After working in non-radio jobs in the '40s and 50s in PORTSMOUTH, DAYTON, and LORAIN, MULLINS returned to WPAY as a host in 1956.
He continued to host on WPAY and then WNXT-A, from which he retired in 2008 but continued to appear until recently. He also appeared in the pilot for the TV series "ROUTE 66."
