ZEKE LOGAN, half of the popular radio show "DRAKE and ZEKE In The Morning" on CUMULUS MEDIA Rock WXMX (98.1 THE MAX)/MEMPHIS, has taken a leave from the show to battle cancer, his on-air partner DRAKE HALL announced on the station this morning, according to a report in the MEMPHIS COMMERCIAL-APPEAL.
LOGAN had been missing from the morning show for several weeks, with HALL confirming his longtime co-host was diagnosed with the unspecified cancer about two months ago.
“It’s not going well,” HALL said. “Whatever happens, we are going to do all in our power to continue this in his name and for his legacy.”
The team has been a mainstay on local Rock stations for 27 years, routinely being voted best local radio personalities by local publications. Originally an afternoon drive-time show on ROCK 103, DRAKE and ZEKE left the station in DECEMBER 2004 for a morning time slot. HALL had been with the station since 1988 and LOGAN, who started as an intern contributing to HALL's show, was paired with him. After about six months off the air, the pair resurfaced with a 6-10a show on WXMX-F after the station changed formats.
“We’ve all tried to maintain privacy and respect (for LOGAN and his family) to carry on as we have,” HALL said. “At this point, there is nothing really to say. He is very sick. And all we ask is that -- if you pray to something -- do it for him today.”
HALL then closed by playing BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN’s “Jungleland.”
