Former network TV executive LLOYD BRAUN's WHALEROCK INDUSTRIES, which plans to create direct-to-consumer subscription web and mobile networks for celebrities, has signed up HOWARD STERN, the KARDASHIAN sisters, and TYLER, THE CREATOR for development, according to a profile in the NEW YORK TIMES.
The WHALEROCK projects is offering the celebrities a way to "cut out the middleman" (other than WHALEROCK itself, which BRAUN says is "not a middleman. We're a facilitator") and distribute and/or sell content directly to fans, but BRAUN told the TIMES that the deals will not conflict with the talent's current or future contracts, like STERN with SIRIUSXM, the KARDASHIANS with E!, and TYLER, THE CREATOR with SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT. He said he plans to create channels for 12 to 20 performers by 2018.
TYLER's channel will launch in JUNE, with the others in the following months.
