Report: L.A.'s Mount Wilson Poole Antenna Complex For Sale

The radio and television complex built by broadcasting pioneer JOHN H. POOLE atop MOUNT WILSON overlooking the LOS ANGELES market is for sale.

TVNEWSCHECK.COM reports that the complex, which presently holds antennae for iHEARTMEDIA Hot AC KBIG (MY 104.3) and GRUPO RADIO CENTRO Regional Mexican KXOS (RADIO CENTRO 93.9)/LOS ANGELES and an auxiliary antenna for iHEARTMEDIA Alternative KYSR (ALT 98.7)/LOS ANGELES as well as MERUELOS MEDIA MUNDO FOX affiliate KWHY-TV, was built in 1953.

POOLE, the founder of what are now CRAWFORD Religion KBRT-A and iHEARTMEDIA AC KBIG, developed the POOLE Antenna Complex site to sign on an early UHF television station, KBIC-TV, on channel 22, notoriously airing nothing but an ID slide for almost a decade before selling the station, which became KIIX-TV, a brief attempt at a TV format directed towards an African-American audience, in 1962.

After going off the air in 1963, channel 22 became independent KPOL-TV in 1965 before assuming the present KWHY-TV calls in 1966, airing financial news and blocks of Ethnic programming and old movies.  It eventually aired SELECTV pay programming at night, then became a prominent Spanish-language independent, later owned by NBC.
