VARIETY is reporting that recently-installed BROADCASTING BOARD OF GOVERNORS CEO/Dir. ANDREW LACK is being courted to return to NBC NEWS in a "top post" at NBCUNIVERSAL NEWS GROUP.
LACK, who was named head of the organization that oversees the VOICE OF AMERICA, RADIO FREE EUROPE/RADIO LIBERTY, RADIO AND TV MARTÍ, RADIO FREE ASIA, and the MIDDLE EAST BROADCASTING NETWORKS at the beginning of this year, is a former head of NBC NEWS (1993-2001), CBS NEWS, BLOOMBERG MEDIA GROUP, and SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT.
If LACK rejoins NBC, he would replace NBCUNIVERSAL NEWS GROUP Chairman PAT FILI-KRUSHEL, who would reportedly move to another position with the company, and NBC NEWS Pres. DEBORAH TURNESS would also remain with the company. NBC NEWS is experiencing a difficult stretch with the BRIAN WILLIAMS suspension and ratings woes at MSNBC and CNBC.
