Martin Scorsese To Film Grateful Dead 'Fare Thee Well' Shows

The GRATEFUL DEAD 50th Anniversary 'FARE THEE WELL" shows at CHICAGO's SOLDIER FIELD over FOURTH OF JULY weekend (NET NEWS, 1/16) will be filmed by MARTIN SCORSESE as part of his documentary on the band, it was reported by THE DAILY BEAST.

Three-day passes for the shows have climbed to $114,000 on STUBHUB. SOLDIER FIELD is where the DEAD last played together as a complete band in JULY 1995, just one month before JERRY GARCIA died of a heart attack.

SCORSESE, who directed THE BAND's "The Last Waltz," will be joined by documentary filmmaker AMIR BAR-LEV, who is directing the documentary, which is being executive produced by MARTY.

“The GRATEFUL DEAD were more than just a band. They were their own planet, populated by millions of devoted fans. I’m very happy that this picture is being made and proud to be involved,” SCORSESE told DEADLINE.

The footage shot by SCORSESE and BAR-LEV of the 50th anniversary shows will be folded into the documentary, which will be released sometime in 2016.
