Radio Morning Star Jack Woods Passes

Longtime DALLAS and SAN DIEGO morning star JACK WOODS, who co-hosted the immensely popular “CHARLIE & HARRIGAN” show with RON CHAPMAN and others, passed away in a SAN DIEGO hospital last night at the age of 80. DALLASNEWS.COM reports that WOODS -- as CHARLIE BROWN – and CHAPMAN – as IRVING HARRIGAN – were trailblazers in mixing comedy and pop music in mornings, starting at KLIF/DALLAS – and according to the NATIONAL RADIO HALL OF FAME, “was an instant success in the ratings.”

WOODS and CHAPMAN would stay friends long after PAUL MENARD replaced CHAPMAN as WOODS’ partner in 1965. Over a year ago, WOODS suffered a stroke that left him temporarily incapacitated, then suffered another a week ago (NET NEWS, 3/9).

“Radio was my life for 48 years,” WOODS told a SAN DIEGO paper in 2014. “Every single day was more fun than the day before. And, I got paid for it.”
