John Proffitt Named Exec. Dir. Of Pacifica Foundation Radio

PACIFICA FOUNDATION RADIO has named former HOUSTON PUBLIC MEDIA noncommercial KUHF/HOUSTON CEO/GM JOHN PROFFITT as Exec. Dir., starting on MAY 11th. PROFFITT spent 25 years at KUHF and more recently has served as a volunteer and host at PACIFICA's noncommercial Variety KPFT/HOUSTON; he is also a recording engineer and producer.

"I deeply admire the PACIFICA commitment to independent news and feature reporting that tell the stories other media outlets frequently ignore or soft-pedal, PROFFITT said, "Its leadership in broadcasting and promoting local art and performance is second to none, as is its 'grassroots' support from the community. I consider PACIFICA to be a national treasure and feel honored to work for its success."

Interim Exec. Dir. and Chair of the PACIFICA National Board MARGY WILKINSON added, "We've spent much of the past year stabilizing PACIFICA after a turbulent time. Bringing on permanent, experienced leadership is the next step.  While PACIFICA still faces significant challenges, I'm confident that JOHN can see us through them, and out our network back on a path of growth."
